City of Silver Bay, Spectrum Health Companies and Iron Range Resources officials on Monday, May 24, 2010, broke ground on a new $1.95 million Carefree Living Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in Silver Bay.

The 28-bed facility, projected to open in November 2010, will create 20 to 25 new jobs. Iron Range Resources provided a $350,000 Public Works Infrastructure Grant for water, sewer, roads and site work for the project.

‘We are excited to continue our expansion in northern Minnesota and have the ability to provide a much needed service to Silver Bay-area residents and are proud to be offering good jobs to the area,” said Jon Monacelli, Spectrum vice president, finance and planning. “Senator Tom Bakk, Representative David Dill, Iron Range Resources and the City of Silver Bay were instrumental in helping us get this project off the ground.”

Spectrum Health Companies is based in Eveleth and has Carefree Living/Memory Care facilities in Brainerd, Burnsville, St. Cloud, Ely and Cook. The company also owns Spectrum Cares Residential Care facilities in Virginia and Ely.
