3 May 2010Iron Range Engineering program wins award
Arrowhead University’s Iron Range Engineering program has won the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MNSCU) 2010 Excellence in Curriculum Programming Award.
The award is given to programs that demonstrate a high rate of employment; transfer or enrollment in graduate school after graduation; make effective use of technology; generate extramural support or funding; involve collaboration with other college or university departments, employers or community members; and reach out to diverse subgroups.
Under a partnership between the Northeast Higher Education District, Arrowhead University and Minnesota State University, Mankato, the Iron Range Engineering program is a collaboration that focuses on third and fourth-year project-centered engineering curriculum. The program is the first of its kind in Minnesota, allowing students who have successfully completed two years of engineering to obtain their baccalaureate engineering degree on Minnesota’s Iron Range.
Under the program, engineering learning occurs on real-world projects alongside practicing engineers. The program has generated statewide and national interest for its collaboration between educational institutions and industries in the region.
Iron Range Resources, through the Iron Range Higher Education Committee, provided a $1.1 million grant to help fund the program. For additional details on the program visit www.arrowheadu.com
