This week, the Iron Range rolls out the red carpet to our friends from India.
Beginning at 8 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, Hibbing Community College hosts a, “Focus on India,” conference.
The all-day conference, which seeks to encourage and strengthen multicultural awareness, includes breakout sessions on India’s history and culture, doing business with India and looks at the culture and social perspectives of Indian natives now working and living in Minnesota.
Keynote speakers include Banashri Bose Harrison, Commerce Minister at the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. and Madhu Vuppuluri, president of Essar Americas.
The event is capped by a 7:30 p.m. Ragmala Dance Performance at the HCC theater.
Essar Steel Minnesota, owned by the India-based Essar Group, is constructing a $1.65 billion iron ore, direct-reduced iron and steel mill near Nashwauk. The project will require about 2,000 construction workers and 400 permanent employees.
The conference, lunch, a reception, program materials and the evening dance performance costs $75 and open to all who would like to attend. However, space is limited.
