Serving the Iron Range and northeastern Minnesota

150 Years of Statehood

Forest Products

Trees for today and tomorrow

The forest products industry is the economic mainstay of thousands of people living in northeastern Minnesota. From loggers and truck drivers to board plant, sawmill and paper mill workers, producing forest products is more than just a job. It is a way of life.   Because of this, forest health and regeneration receive special care and attention.

Forestry and the BioEconomy

As the world, country and state seek alternative energy sources and work to respond to the ecological problems that are quickly becoming economic challenges, Minnesota’s biological diversity, coupled with its well-established forest products and energy industries, positions the state to lead the country in finding solutions to these complex challenges.

Forest Biomass Harvesting Stakeholder Forum

More than 40 professionals from a balanced cross-section of interests met Tuesday, April 29, at Iron Range Resources offices in Eveleth, Minnesota, to review existing studies about the availability and feasibility of harvesting biomass from northeastern Minnesota forests and to discuss the practical opportunities for and challenges to sustainable harvest.

This half-day forum was a key recommendation and outcome of the “Seizing Opportunity: Forestry and the Bioeconomy” conference held in September 2007, and convened to continue dialogue on developing the region’s biomass potential, a leading-edge topic in Minnesota’s forest industry. The "Seizing Opportunity: Forestry and the Bioeconomy" conference, co-sponsored by the Blandin Foundation and Iron Range Resources, focused on aligning actors in the region to take best advantage of emerging technologies and markets - particularly in the area of renewable energy and biofuels - for the region's communities and forest products industry.  http://www.blandinfoundation.org/html/public_vital_conf_Bio_07a.cfm
